The power of a diesel engine refers to the effective power that the diesel engine can achieve in a continuous 12-hour normal operation at the rated speed. The power of the synchronous generator refers to the rated electric power obtained from the output terminal during long-term continuous operation at the rated speed. Usually, the ratio of the rated power (horsepower) of the diesel engine to the rated power (kW) of the synchronous generator is called the matching ratio. Units used on the plain generally require a matching ratio of 1.6:1; for some mobile power stations with higher requirements, the matching ratio is 2:1.
The matching requirements of the speed are also very strict. The speed is closely related to the power, frequency, voltage, etc. of the generator set. Therefore, it is required that the diesel engine matching the generator must have a good performance and reliable speed governor to ensure that the diesel generator set can be carried in a relatively short period. To reach its rated speed and run stably, it must also be able to meet the requirements for speed regulation of diesel generator sets when the load changes.
Diesel generator sets can be operated as a single unit, or multiple units can be operated in parallel and integrated into the power system. The operation of a single diesel generator set is restricted by many conditions: if its power meets the requirements of heavy load conditions, the diesel generator set will reduce the economics of the diesel generator set when it is running at light load, and its standby diesel generator set must be operated with The unit capacity is the same. Using multiple units to operate in parallel and integrated into the power grid can expand the power supply capacity and improve the reliability of the power supply. Only one standby diesel generator set is required, which relatively reduces the capacity of the standby set. To achieve parallel operation, the following four conditions must be met: ①The voltage at the terminals of the diesel generator set is equal; ②The frequency of the diesel generator set is equal; ③The phase is consistent and the phase sequence is consistent. At the same time, there must be a diesel generator set operation protection device, which can automatically and reasonably allocate and adjust the active power and reactive power, so that the frequency regulation characteristic and the voltage regulation characteristic curve between the diesel generator sets tend to be close. During the testing process of the diesel generator set, it is best to operate and track the changes in data such as air pressure and oil pressure in the diesel generator controller. Therefore, the stability of the quality of the diesel generator controller and the humanization of the design are very demanding.
